City Street Address Assignment
Where a property has direct driveway access to a street or road, a municipal street address is assigned by the Chief Building Official but is only assigned after any required new driveway has been constructed. Vacant lots without an access driveway will not be assigned an address. The City street address where already assigned will appear on your tax bill. You are encouraged to display the number on your house or commercial property. In the rural areas north of the By-pass, driveways existing as of January 2002 will be posted with an appropriate standard sign of white numbers on blue background. Rural properties with driveways constructed after January 2000 will have a number assigned after construction of the driveway. In this latter situation, you must apply for the number from the Chief Building Official and pay the required current fee and install the number as specified. Once installed, rural numbers must be maintained by the property owner and may not be removed as the numbers are essential for 911 responses. Replacement numbers and/or posts are only available after paying the current fee.
